hey — i'm eric. i make elevate., a little mental-health newsletter and community i started as a 2am notes-app draft. it's the best thing i've made.
i'm not an expert at any of this — just a person figuring it out, out loud. this is everything i'm making, listening to, and thinking about lately.
the thing i make.
elevate.elevate. is a monthly mental-health newsletter and a little discord community — a softer corner of the internet. daily check-ins, a wins wall, a 24/7 radio, and people who get it. no performance, no algorithms. free + gentle, always.
the feed.
@imericmejiaa short note from the team: issue 09 is running a little behind.
we've had a few small internal mix-ups on our end this week — nothing dramatic,
entirely our own doing — and we'd rather send it right than send it on time.
we're sorry for the delay. it's coming, it'll still be free, and it'll still be
about six minutes of your evening. thank you for being patient with us.
the station played rain sounds for forty minutes at 3am because somebody
queued them and then went to bed.
eleven people were still listening. we're leaving it in the rotation.
opened the morning check-in on nine minutes of sleep and typed
"good mroning" to three hundred people.
not fixing it. it's a vibe now.
did nothing productive today. answered zero emails. went outside once,
briefly, by accident.
this is the post.
the wins wall this week: someone got out of bed. someone got a job.
someone ate a vegetable on purpose.
all three got about the same number of hearts. that is the entire idea.
added thirty-one songs to the september rotation and then removed thirty
of them.
the one that survived is oh well. again. i am aware.
halfway through september and the check-in thread has not missed a single
morning.
that isn't me. that's everyone who shows up in there before i'm even awake.
monday. issue 09 is half-written and i have rewritten the same paragraph
four times. it'll get there.
the check-in thread is open like always. if you're starting this week
already tired — that's allowed, and it isn't a character flaw.
someone in the server said "i didn't do much today but i did stay"
and i haven't stopped thinking about it since.
staying is doing something.
things that helped this week. none of them impressive:
september is suicide prevention month.
we're not doing anything loud. all month there's a resources page pinned in the
community, a check-in every single morning, and this, said plainly:
you do not have to be okay to be worth keeping around. if today is heavy,
you're not a burden for saying so — to us, or to any of the people below.
the community passed a number today that made me sit down for a second.
i'm not going to post it — it isn't a scoreboard.
but if you're in there: thank you for being gentle with each other. that part was
never in my control and you did it anyway.
made a new playlist for september. slower than the last one. for walking somewhere you don't need to get to quickly.
last night's listening party ran two hours over and nobody left.
that's the whole thing. that's the product.
tonight we take over elevate.fm for a few hours. no host voice, no agenda. come sit in, put it on in another tab, go do the dishes.
you don't need a system. you need a glass of water and someone to tell you
it's fine that today was hard.
(it's fine that today was hard.)
issue 08 is out. it's about the season turning whether you're ready or not, and giving yourself a runway instead of an impact.
i almost didn't send the last issue. i re-read it and thought
"this is too small."
it wasn't too small. it just wasn't loud. those are not the same thing.
i think this year has mostly been about
reflecting, re-energizing, and reaching — past the edges of what
felt comfortable.
none of it looked like progress while it was happening. most of it still doesn't.
but we live and we learn, and that counts as moving forward.
whatever this year has asked of you — you're still here. remember that.
reminder that the community is free, always open, and requires exactly zero of you being okay. come sit in.
a small list for a heavy week. none of it is optional, all of it is easy:
the internet made us all performers. elevate. is my small attempt at a place with no stage.
made a playlist for the in-between hours. press play, go for a walk, let it do the talking.
rest isn't a reward you unlock. it's maintenance. still learning this one.
three months ago i replied to a stranger's check-in because nobody had yet.
we text every week now.
that's it. that's the post.
missed my stop on the train again reading issue 08. fourth time this year.
i am not changing anything about this.
nine months in the server and i've said maybe forty words total.
it still feels like mine.
thank you for making that a normal way to be somewhere.
spent two hours today moving a colour four steps warmer.
nobody will ever notice. that's sort of the job.
was asked to make a trending audio thing for the account today.
i said no. we are not doing a dance about mental health.
the station went down for four minutes at 2am and eleven people noticed
before i did.
back up. nothing to see. please continue.
said no to a brand today that wanted to sponsor the check-in thread.
the check-in thread will not have a sponsor. not this year, not ever.
the latest issue.
